Contestants perform two monologues, one classical, one contemporary,
from a list of playwrights available on competition website.
Contestants must be:
- 18-29 years old inclusive
- a citizen of the United States
- reside or attend an educational institution in the Chapter's
regional areas: Washington DC, Virginia, Maryland or Delaware
- not be under professional management or under exclusive contract to
a theater/film/ television agent at time of competition

Absolutely NO entrance fee.
Judges include revered DC theater Directors and highly respected
members of the DC theater community.

pianist Awadagin Pratt.

REALIZE RECORDS OPEN MIC CONTEST OFFERS RECORD DEAL AS FIRST PRIZE

Every Wednesday, Bourbon Street Grill, in conjunction with independent
record label Realize Records will be offering the opportunity for an
artist to land a record deal. All month long open mic performers will
be judged by Realize Records label representatives. Acts can enter by
performing at the open mic and filling out an official entry form.
Each month three winners will be chosen to move on to the semi-finals
in May. The monthly winners will be announced on the first Wednesday
of the following month. The finals take place on June 24th.

The open mic, previously held at Stoney's in Wilmington is famous for
it's no censorship stance and it being a catalyst to launching
artist's careers. Realize Records artist singer/songwriter Chris
Bruni and comedienne Janice Kamalski were both signed as a result of
contests held at the open mic. "The open mic is in its sixth year and
has a loyal following of artists that utilize the night as a platform
to test new material and launch their careers. The new room will
allow us to eventually host full bands." Says host Paul Lewis.

Judging will be based on artistic merit, originality, craft,
professionalism, and market potential. Michel Grey, CEO of the label
states, "The music industry is rapidly changing, and as a company we
are looking for artists that have the talent and overall package to
gain recognition in an already saturated market." Other prizes include
a free month of the labels new innovative Realize Record Label
Institute which allows students to become hands on and learn insider
secrets. Third prize is dinner for two at the Bourbon Street Grill.

All interested artists, singers, spoken word performers and comedians
should come early to sign up. All contestants will need to fill out an
official entry form. Each open mic starts at 9:00PM. Bourbon Street
Grill (formerly the Crerand Ale House) is located at 2605 Philadelphia

Realize Records was formed in Los Angeles, CA in 2000 as an
alternative for independent musicians. In 2003, Realize opened its
East coast office in the greater Wilmington, DE area and has been
